Sustainability and Social Responsibility
Bentall is widely recognized as a leader in advancing sound and sustainable environmental practices in our industry. As an environmental steward, we promote positive change through contributing knowledge and expertise in support of a wide range of sustainability initiatives, both at the properties we develop and manage, and at our own offices. We also believe strongly in giving back to the communities in which we live and work through our support of a range of charitable organizations.
Sustainable Property Development and Management
Bentall is a front-runner in promoting sustainable property management and development practices. In addition to helping to pioneer industry initiatives like BOMA’s Go Green program, we have launched many of our own innovative programs, such as “Greening your Cleaning”. Bentall has also adopted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for all new development and redevelopment projects.
Initiatives that relate directly or indirectly to responsible property management at more than 600 Bentall-managed properties across Canada and in the US are drawn together under Bentall’s ForeverGreen banner. These encompass building operations, tenant events and community services. Through ForeverGreen, we partner with clients, tenants and suppliers to reduce green house gas emissions, increase waste diversion practices and reduce the environmental footprint of the properties we manage.
Sustainability at the Corporate Level
In addition to our sustainability initiatives at each of the properties
we manage, we are actively working to reduce our impact on the environment
at the corporate level. Bentall was the first real estate company
to join Canadian Business for Social Responsibility, an organization
that works with members to help them achieve their sustainability
and corporate social responsibility goals. We are currently evaluating
our impact on the environment and identifying reduction initiatives
in a number of key areas, including greenhouse gas emissions, waste
levels and purchasing practices.

Community Giving and Participation
In each of our cities, we lend our support to community and charitable activities, both corporately and through the actions of our employees. We are proud to support many organizations both at the corporate level and locally, including United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Covenant House, Ronald McDonald House, the Suzuki Foundation and World Wildlife Fund. In addition, Bentall has an employee donation matching program that benefits many of the causes our employees choose to support personally.
